The fall harvest proclamation is in effect through Feb 6, 2025. The proclamation allows vehicles transporting corn, soybeans, hay, straw, silage, stover, fertilizer (dry, liquid, and gas), and manure (dry and liquid) to be overweight (not exceeding 90,000 pounds gross weight) without a permit for the duration of this proclamation. It applies to loads transported on all highways within Iowa (excluding the interstate system) and those which do not exceed a maximum of 90,000 pounds gross weight, do not exceed the maximum axle weight limit determined under the non-primary highway maximum gross weight table in Iowa Code § 321.463 (6) (b), by more than 12.5 percent, do not exceed the legal maximum axle weight limit of 20,000 pounds, and comply with posted limits on roads and bridges. All Systems Overweight Permit application ($500) allows travel on designated counties and local roads. Out-of-state carriers must have either an IRP or farm plate to order any Iowa oversize or overweight permits. Welcome to Iowa’s online permitting system (IAPS) This site issues permits for oversize and overweight vehicles along state-maintained routes only. This includes interstate, US, and IA routes. Permits for local or county roads should be obtained from those respective agencies. Permits are not valid during the nighttime hours of sunset to sunrise unless authorized for continuous movement. 2025 HOLIDAY TRAVEL RESTRICTIONS An oversize/overweight permit shall not be valid for travel on the following dates: Memorial Day May 23rd – No travel after 12:00pm. May 24th – No travel May 25th – No travel May 26th – No travel May 27th – No travel until 30 minutes prior to sunrise Independence Day July 3rd – No travel after 12:00pm July 4th – No travel July 5th – No travel July 6th – No travel July 7th – No travel until 30 minutes prior to sunrise Labor Day August 29th – No travel after 12:00pm August 30th – No travel August 31st – No travel September 1st – No travel September 2nd – No travel until 30 minutes prior to sunrise 2025 Office Closings and Hours The Iowa DOT permit office will be closed on the following dates. Permits are valid on these dates and may still be applied for and system issued during these times; however, any office processing required will be delayed. Normal business hours are central standard time: Monday-Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm, except every Wednesday from 12:00 to 4:30 the office is closed to the public for staff training.
